Previous College Hockey America player of the week recipients, Bemidji State junior forward Brendan Cook and senior goalie Grady Hunt, have earned league honors once again while Alabama-Huntsville freshman center Grant Selinger has earned his first rookie of the week award for their efforts over the weekend. Cook, last week’s offensive player of the week, has earned his third weekly award of the season while Hunt’s award is his fourth of the season.
Offensive Player of the Week
Brendan Cook, Bemidji State, Junior, Forward, Reston, Manitoba Cook has been the league’s most dominant offensive players in recent weeks, putting together a five-game goal-scoring streak, during which time he has eight goals and 11 points. In leading the Beavers to 4-0 and 5-3 wins over Findlay, Cook recorded four goals, including two shorthanded tallies and was +4 on the weekend. He recorded his second hat trick of the season in Friday’s win and now ranks second nationally in short-handed (5) and game-winning goals (5). During his five-game goal-scoring streak, Cook has scored three short-handed goals and his five on the season tie the CHA record set last season by Wayne State’s Billy Collins. Cook, who entered the 2003-04 campaign with 12 goals and 23 career points, leads the team with 18 goals and 29 points and carries a seven-game point-scoring streak, during which time he has eight goals and 13 points.

Defensive Player of the Week
Grady Hunt, Bemidji State, Senior, Goalie, Vernon, British Columbia With his fourth defensive player of the week award this season, Hunt has now received the honor 13 times in his career with this week’s honor coming after he posted his fifth career shutout, a 16-save, 4-0 win over Findlay. Hunt, a first-team All-CHA pick last season, has allowed just seven goals in his last five appearances, posting a 1.67 goals against average and a .910 save percentage, stopping 71 of 78 shots, during that time. In Friday’s win, Hunt recorded his 2,500th career save while notching his league-leading eight conference victory. The shutout, his first since an identical 4-0 win over Findlay at last year’s CHA Championship, March 14, 2003, moves him into a fourth-place tie on BSU’s career chart.

Rookie of the Week
Grant Selinger, Alabama-Huntsville, Freshman, Center, Regina, Saskatchewan Selinger, who had two goals on the season entering the weekend, scored a pair of goals in two games with Northern Michigan, becoming the third Charger to earn CHA rookie of the week honors this season. Friday, in a 3-2 loss, Selinger’s power-play goal with three minutes, 38 seconds to play in the second period got UAH on the scoreboard and made the score 3-1. Saturday, the Charger rookie centerman tallied seven shots on goal and his goal, with 3:37 to play in the third period, enabled his team to escape with a 3-3 tie.
