its 2002-03 College Hockey America title with a series sweep
of Air Force over the weekend and swept league honors for the
week, with senior goalie Adam MacLean, junior center Jared
Ross and freshman center Steve Canter all being cited for their
play.
Offensive Player
of the Week
Jared Ross, Alabama-Huntsville, Junior, Center, Huntsville,
Alabama
Ross shares the national lead in points per game (2.50)
and is the national leader in assists per game (2.00) after tallying
seven points in 5-1 and 6-4 wins over Air Force. The son of Charger
head coach Doug Ross, the team’s scoring
leader last season registered a goal and an assist Friday before
racking up a career-high four assists in Saturday’s win.
Other nominees: None. Defensive Player of the Week
Adam MacLean, Alabama-Huntsville, Senior, Goalie, Woodstock,
Ontario
MacLean earned his second consecutive start Friday and
turned in a 25-save effort to post his second victory of the
season. A week after getting his first start in 364 days, in
which a misconduct penalty in the game’s final three minutes
prevented him from collecting a shutout, MacLean gave up a goal
on the first shot he faced before settling in to slam the door
on the Falcons the rest of night.
Other nominees: None. Rookie of the Week
Steve Canter, Alabama-Huntsville, Freshman, Center, St. Louis,
Mo.
In helping the Chargers to a pair of victories, Canter
recorded his first three collegiate goals, including the game-winner
in Saturday’s 6-4 victory. Canter’s first career
goal, one minute, 36 seconds into Friday’s third period,
gave UAH a 3-1 lead. Saturday, his power-play goal at 16:08 of
the second period snapped a 3-3 tie and he notched the game-winner
3:30 into the final period.
