Wayne State sweeps CHA weekly player honors

Wayne State University forward Jason Durbin earned CHA Offensive Player of the Week honors this week, while Warrior netminder David Guerrera garnered CHA Defensive Player of the Week accolades. WSU defenseman Greg Poupard was named CHA Rookie of the Week, marking his first CHA honor. Durbin is a three-time award winner and Guerrera earned his fifth weekly honor.

OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Durbin, a 5-11, 183-pound senior from Trenton, Mich., had four points in the Warriors’ sweep of Bemidji State. He tallied an assist in Friday’s 4-2 victory and recorded his second career hat trick Saturday in a 6-1 win.

DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Guerrera, a 5-11, 185-pound senior goaltender from St. Leonard, Quebec, posted back-to-back victories over Bemidji State as he stopped 51-of-54 shots over the weekend for a .944 save percentage. In Saturday’s 6-1 win, the lone Beaver goal came on the power play.

ROOKIE OF THE WEEK
Poupard, a 6-2, 200-pound defenseman from Jackson, Mich., was part of the Warrior penalty-kill unit that stopped 12-of-13 Beaver power plays last weekend.

Honorable Mention Performance
Bemidji State’s duo of Brendan Cook and Wade Chiodo each scored a goal to give BSU a 1-0 lead each night at Wayne State last week, but the Warriors rallied for the weekend sweep.
