of Alabama-Huntsville forward Mike Funk earned CHA Offensive
Player of the Week honors this week, while teammate Scott
Munroe garnered CHA Defensive Player of the Week accolades.
Wayne State University
freshman Derek Mackay was named CHA Rookie of the Week, marking
his first CHA honor. Funk and Munroe each earned
their second weekly award.
OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Funk, a 6-4, 225-pound junior from Newton, Manitoba, helped
the Chargers to a weekend sweep over Fairfield by playing
a hand in five of 16 UAH goals. Funk netted a goal and
four assists
in the series, while helping the Chargers up their unbeaten
streak to nine games--second-best in the nation. DEFENSIVE PLAYER
OF THE WEEK
Munroe, a 6-2, 205-pound freshman goaltender from Moose Jaw,
Saskatchewan, allowed a first-period, power-play goal to
the Stags Friday, but closed out the game with 21 saves to
improve
to
6-2 on the year. ROOKIE OF THE WEEK
Mackay, a 6-1, 185-pound forward from Sault Ste. Marie, Ont.,
scored the Warriors first goal both nights vs. Air Force and
assisted on Dustin Kingston’s game-tying goal with four
seconds remaining in the second period Sunday to knot the game
at 2-2. Honorable Mention Performance
Wayne State University senior Jack Redwood scored the game-tying
goal vs. Air Force Saturday with 10 seconds remaining in
regulation, helping the Warriors to a 2-2 overtime tie.
University of Findlay
junior goaltender Kevin Fines stopped
30-of-31 shots vs. Western Michigan after replacing Jamie
VandeSpyker in the contest. Air Force freshman Carson
Strang recorded a
goal and an assist vs. Wayne State last week. |
