Goulet earned CHA Offensive Player of the Week honors this
week, while University of Alabama-Huntsville defenseman Ryan
Leasa garnered CHA Defensive Player of the Week accolades.
Wayne State University freshman Matt Kelly was named CHA
Rookie of the Week, marking his first CHA honor. Goulet is
a two-time award winner and Leasa is a first-time winner.
Offensive Player of the Week
Goulet, a 5-11, 185-pound senior from Banff, Alberta, helped
the Beavers to a split last week at the Subway Classic in
Grand Forks, N.D. Goulet recorded a goal and five assists
in a 10-4
exhibition win over Manitoba in the semifinals and scored
two of the three BSU goals in a 4-3 loss to the No. 1-ranked
Fighting
Sioux in the title game. Defensive Player of the Week
Leasa, a 6-1, 175-pound senior from Sarnia, Ontario, tallied
a pair of goals in the Chargers' 5-4 overtime upset of No.
8 Ferris State. Leasa was part of a penalty-kill unit that
allowed just one power play goal in 15 opponent opportunities
last week, including an 0-for-8 power play performance by
Findlay in the title game of the UConn. Classic. Rookie of the Week
Kelly, a 5-10, 170-pound goaltender from Hull, Mass.,
recorded his first collegiate shutout with 36 saves in a
7-0 win over
Princeton. He also blanked Princeton on 10 power plays. Honorable
Mention Performance
Wayne State University senior Maxim Starchenko had three
goals and two assists as he helped the Warriors to a 1-1
record in
the RPI/HSBC Holiday Tournament. Ala.-Huntsville freshman
goaltender Scott Munroe recorded 26 saves in an upset of
No. 8 Ferris
State. Munroe has won five straight games. University of
Findlay junior goaltender Kevin Fines posted a 1-1 record
at the UConn.
