forward Joe Tallari earned CHA Offensive Player of the Week
honors this week, while teammate Rob Bonk garnered CHA Defensive
Player of the Week accolades. Bemidji State University freshman
Kelly
Shields was named CHA Rookie of the Week, marking his first
CHA honor. Tallari earned CHA honors for the first time
in his career, while Bonk is a seven-time CHA award winner.
OFFENSIVE
PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Tallari, a 5-11, 180-pound senior from Thunder Bay, Ontario,
helped the Purple Eagles to a weekend split vs. CHA rival
Air Force. Tallari tallied a goal and an assist in a 5-2
loss to
the Falcons,
and scored two first-period goals in Niagara’s
6-2 victory Saturday over Air Force. He leads the CHA with
17 points this season. DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Bonk, a 6-4, 195-pound junior from Fenton, Mich., helped
the Purple Eagles to a 6-2 win over Air Force Saturday
by stopping
21-of-23 shots faced. The two goals allowed are the second
fewest allowed
by Niagara this season. ROOKIE OF THE WEEK
Shields, a 5-11, 176-pound freshman goaltender from Victoria,
British Columbia, stopped 62-of-66 shots in his first full
collegiate series vs. Minnesota State. He posted a 1.93 goals
against average and a .939 save percentage. Shields stopped
28-of-29
shots in an overtime tie Friday, and added 34 saves Saturday--the
most by a Beaver freshman since March 2, 2001 (Grady Hunt). Honorable Mention Performance
