Wiggins earned CHA Offensive Player of the Week honors
this week, while University of Findlay goaltender Jamie
VandeSpyker garnered CHA Defensive Player of the
Week accolades. Findlay freshman Andrew Radzak
was named CHA Rookie of the Week, marking his first CHA honor.
Wiggins earned CHA honors for the first time as well, while
Vandespyker earned honors for the second time overall.
• Offensive Player of the Week
Wiggins, a 5-11, 175-pound sophomore from Alamo, Calif., helped
the Falcons rally from a 4-1 deficit in the third period of
Friday's game at Holy Cross as he played a hand in all five
third period goals to boost the Falcons to a 6-4 win. Wiggins
assisted on three goals to open the final period and scored
the game-winning goal on a power play at 16:39. He assisted
on the Falcons' first goal at 2:48 of the first, and tallied
an assist on an insurance goal at 17:20 in the third. Wiggins
was unable to play Saturday due to a separated shoulder suffered
in Friday's game.
• Defensive Player of the Week
Vandespyker, a 6-1, 185-pound senior netminder from
Campellville,
Ontario, paced the Oilers to a sweep at Canisius, 3-1, 8-1
last week. He played all 120 minutes and allowed just two
goals in 48 shots for a .958 save percentage. Both Ice Griffins
goals were scored in the third period to spoil Vandespyker's
shutout bids.
• Rookie of the Week
Radzak, a 6-2, 190-pound freshman forward from Elmhurst, Ill.,
assisted on a goal in Findlay's 3-1 win over Canisius Friday
and scored a pair of goals in the 8-1 victory Saturday.
Honorable Mention Performance
Niagara University forward recorded
his second hat trick this season with three goals in a 4-3
loss to UMass.-Lowell Sunday... Air Force senior forward Andy
Berg scored a hat trick in the Falcons 6-4 win at
Holy Cross... Bemidji State University sophomore forward Andrew
Murray scored both Beaver goals in a 2-2 tie with
Sacred Heart Saturday... University of Alabama-Huntsville
senior forward Karlis Zirnis tallied a three-point
weekend with two goals and an assist in a series at Wisconsin.
